Low Country Landscaping and Development Company, Inc. was founded in October 1975 by John B. Boyd and brother Reese R. Boyd, Jr., Landscape Architect. John Boyd being a graduate of The University of South Carolina and Reese Boyd, Jr., ASLA being a graduate of Clemson University, founded the company with the idea of being a top professional design-build landscape contractor working mainly in Horry County, South Carolina. John bought his brother Reese out of the business in 1984 but they continue to consult on some projects.
Low Country specializes in all forms of landscaping including but not limited to hardscaping, landscaping, planting, mulching, installing sod, drainage, automatic lawn irrigation systems, arbors, trellis, pavers, concrete and weekly and bi-annual maintenance including planting seasonal annuals. John took Thomas Hayes Drake in as a partner and Chief Operation Officer in 2002. Hayes attended Horry Georgetown Technical College in Turf and Golf Course Management and today he is a full partner in the business and a true asset.
John and Hayes make a great team and they believe in building relationships with all clients telling them that if they are satisfied with the work tell all your neighbors but if not, tell us and give us an opportunity to make it right. The business has been successful for 38 plus years and survives by repeat business and referrals and a satisfied client base. The business does $1.5 million to $2 million annually and does both commercial and residential landscaping. Ms. Sue Wright, secretary has been with Low Country since 2001 and is a true asset and runs the office in a very professional manner. The maintenance crew leader is Danny Smith and he has been with the company for several years as well and does an outstanding job in the maintenance division. Employee numbers are from twelve to twenty annually depending on the season and work load.
